Dr. Sofia Mavrikou is an Assistant Professor at the Laboratory of Cell
Technology at the Department of Biotechnology at the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), Greece. She holds a PhD in the development of bio-electric biosensors and in vitro toxicology (2014, AUA), a MSc in Natural Products and Enzyme Technology, and BSc in Biotechnology from the same school. All these years her research work is mainly focused on the development of biosensors for clinical, food safety, veterinary and environmental applications.
In addition, she works on the assessment of bioactive compounds and drugs for in vitro toxicology applications and plant tissue culture for environmental applications. Since 2007, she has participated in several national and international projects (funded by the industry or by public bodies).
She is the author/co-author in several scientific papers in cross-discipline, international scientific journals, in addition to invited book chapters, and other publications in international and national conferences. She is also the co-editor of one international book and holder of one national patent. A recipient of the prestigious IDea Incubator Competition Prize (2nd Place) and a Prize from the 1st Innovation competition of the Greek Ministry of Defense. She is also the co-founder of the AUA spin-off company Ce.B.Tec, a pioneer in the development of diagnostic technologies.
